"The most important thing is to follow the same process all the way."
The hard glass will be repeatedly twisted and pushed out, and the rhythm will generate the beautiful spiral curves. It sometimes requires four hours of concentration to make one handcrafted fountain glass pen.

Kan Seifu's Glass Pen

"I would like to give out the glass pen to people who love it even if I don't make any profit."
The glass pen has the diameter of 0.4 to 0.8 inches and the length of 5.9 to 6.7 inches. The tips has spiral flutes and it holds ink just like a capillary absorption. This style is developed in 1902 in Japan, and then it was exported to the overseas. Since then, it has been used all over the world. At that time, RAKTO, the glass-like material was used for the tip and bamboo was used for the holder.

Kan Seifu insisted on the use of hard glass, which was very difficult to work with, and he had researched over time. As a result, he has succeeded to create a glass pen that has strong and durable tip and enable smooth writing as fountain pen. Furthermore, his glass pen is capable of drawing a very fine line and prevents ink from dripping. It is now possible to write a post card size paper in one dip.

The process of creating a glass pen starts with preparing the glass that has tip and holder are connected. First, heat up the tip with burner and repeat the process of twist, push and pull. It takes about one hour for standard pen, and over four hours for premiums. Then work on its tip by carefully stretching it out.

This is how the Kan Seifu's Glass Pen is handcrafted, and it sparkles like a jewelry.

The difference between Hard glass and Soft glass

The hard glass, also known as heat-resistant glass requires twice as much heat as soft glass, and for instance it is used in coffee syphon.
Kan Seigfu's glass pen is heat-resistant, chemical-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. It even prevents wearing which was drawback of the traditional glass pen.

Important to follow the same process all the way

The flame coming out from the burner becomes 2200 Fahrenheit and 12 inch long. 0.4 to 0.8 inch diameter hard glass will be twisted left and pushed out and then twisted right and pushed out again. This rhythm will generate the beautiful spiral curves. The fountain pen is handcrafted with hard glass from holder to its tip, and it sometimes requires four hours of concentration just for one pen.
